Lee County Commissioner Mike Greenwell passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025. After his 12-year professional career with the Boston Red Sox, he returned to Lee County so that he could raise his family and become a local business owner.
He was appointed to the Board by Gov. DeSantis in July of 2022 and served as Chairman of the Board in 2024. He will be remembered for seeking meaningful solutions to the challenges his community faced, working to make the quality of life better for the people he served.
The family is encouraging residents and fans to bring their best “Mike Greenwell stories” and share memories at his Celebration of Life.
